TRANSFORMATIve cabinet refacing
Cabinet refacing can completely change the appearance of your kitchen without requiring every cabinet to be removed and replaced.
Calgary Kitchen Restyling retains suitable existing cabinet boxes and updates the visible exterior with new doors, drawer fronts, coordinated finishes and carefully selected details.
The result is more than a new cabinet colour. It is an opportunity to give the entire kitchen a fresh and cohesive design.
more than replacing doors
A professionally planned refacing project involves considerably more than exchanging the cabinet doors.
The existing doors, drawer fronts, hinges and selected trim are removed. Visible cabinet surfaces are prepared and finished using materials chosen to coordinate with the new doors. Panels, mouldings and other details are added where required, followed by the new doors, drawer fronts, hinges and hardware.
When properly designed and installed, the finished kitchen should feel complete—not like a new exterior placed over an old kitchen.
REFACING BEYOND THERMOFOIL
Cabinet refacing is not limited to thermofoil doors and vinyl-covered cabinet surfaces.
Calgary Kitchen Restyling can reface kitchens using:
• Thermofoil doors with coordinating applied finishes
• Solid wood doors with real wood veneer
• Lacquered doors with coordinating finished surfaces
• Combinations of painted and natural wood finishes
Real wood introduces natural grain, warmth and character. Lacquered doors provide a smooth painted finish with greater flexibility in colour and style. Thermofoil remains a practical option when its appearance, performance and price align with the project.
This variety allows us to select materials around the desired design and investment rather than limiting every refacing project to one product type.

IS REFACING RIGHT FOR YOUR KITCHEN?
Cabinet refacing may be a good choice when:
• The cabinet boxes are structurally sound
• Most of the existing layout still works
• The cabinet doors and finishes look dated
• You want a different style, material or colour
• Certain areas need improvement, but complete replacement is unnecessary
• You want less disruption than a complete renovation
Refacing is not automatically right for every kitchen. Replacement may make better sense when the cabinets are badly damaged, the layout creates significant problems or extensive modifications would bring the investment too close to the cost of new cabinetry.
We assess the existing kitchen before recommending which approach makes the most sense.
MORE POSSIBILITIES WITHIN A REFACE
A refacing project can remain focused on the cabinet exterior or include improvements such as:
APPEARANCE
• New doors, drawer fronts, hardware and soft-close hinges
• Finished panels, gables, mouldings and glass doors
• Coordinating or contrasting colours and materials
FUNCTION
• Door-to-drawer conversions
• New drawer boxes and soft-close slides
• Waste, recycling and pantry accessories
• Appliance-opening modifications
FINISHING DETAILS
• Add-on or replacement cabinets
• Island modifications
• New countertops and backsplash
• Sink, faucet and lighting updates
These options allow the project to improve how the kitchen functions as well as how it looks.

OUR PROJECTS
common questions
IS REFACING THE SAME AS PAINTING?
No. Refacing installs completely new doors and drawer fronts and updates the visible cabinet-box surfaces. Refinishing retains and recoats the existing components.
Calgary Kitchen Restyling does not offer cabinet painting as a standalone service, although refinishing may form part of a larger kitchen project.
ARE THERMOFOIL DOORS MY ONLY OPTION?
No. Depending on the design, we can reface using thermofoil, lacquered or solid wood doors with appropriately coordinated finishes on the cabinet exteriors.
CAN CABINETS BE ADDED DURING A REFACE?
Yes. A pantry, island, appliance cabinet or other cabinetry can often be added. The new cabinetry must be designed to work cohesively with the refaced cabinets.
CAN LOWER CABINETS BE CONVERTED TO DRAWERS?
In many kitchens, yes. The possibilities depend on the cabinet’s dimensions, construction and location.
CAN COUNTERTOPS AND BACKSPLASH BE INCLUDED?
Yes. Including them within the project allows the materials, colours and installation sequence to be coordinated with the refaced cabinetry.
UNDERSTANDING THE INVESTMENT
The cost of refacing depends on the kitchen’s size, number of doors and drawer fronts, selected materials and any additional improvements.
Our Projects page includes real kitchen examples, the work involved and the approximate investment for each project.
