Getting the Look Without Overspending
This DeWinton acreage kitchen was completed for one of our renovation clients. They came to Calgary Kitchen Restyling with the design and details already worked out, including the look of traditional inset face-frame cabinetry.
The challenge was getting that look to work within the project budget.
For the base cabinetry, we built authentic face-frame cabinets with inset doors and drawers. For the tall cabinet sections, we used 1½-inch finished panels to create the same face-frame appearance without the added cost of building every cabinet using full face-frame construction.
That allowed us to keep the design intent while being more strategic about where the budget was spent.
What We Built
• Painted MDF shaker cabinetry
• Authentic face-frame base cabinets
• Inset doors and drawers on the base cabinetry
• Tall cabinet sections detailed with 1½-inch panels to continue the face-frame look
• Full-height pantry and refrigerator cabinetry
• Custom island
• Decorative island panels and posts
• Floating shelves
• Custom hood detailing
• Cabinet delivery and installation
The Result
The finished kitchen has the traditional detail of inset face-frame cabinetry without requiring the entire kitchen to be built using the most expensive construction method.
This project is a good example of how Calgary Kitchen Restyling can work from a renovator or designer's plans and find practical ways to achieve the intended look while still being mindful of the budget.
Typical Investment
A cabinetry and installation package with a similar scope would typically range from $27,000–$30,000 today.
Final pricing depends on the size of the kitchen, cabinet construction, door style, finishing, custom details and installation requirements.
At Calgary Kitchen Restyling, sometimes the best solution is not the most expensive one. The goal is to get the right look, the right function and the right value for the project.
